Spicy Day Date - Couples Boudoir Sessions
Looking for a creative way to celebrate?
If these past couple of years have brought us anything, it really has tested our ability to be vulnerable and spend a lot of time with one another. As we have slipped into new routines of social distance we are pushed closer to our immediate circle of intimacy. Have we learned to distance ourselves or have learned to strengthen our bonds with our partners. Either way it never hurts to focus on your intimacy whether it be emotional, mental, spiritual and yes of course physical.
Boudoir photography is a special type of photography that is taken to promote self-esteem and body acceptance. Typically it is viewed as an empowering experience for women who are looking to celebrate a milestone in their lives. The reality is men can benefit from it too, and together couples can experience this journey as well.
You might be asking yourself, who does a couples boudoir session? Just ask yourself…..
Do you want to spice up your relationship? Do you want to do something that will be fun for both of you? Do you want to create a bond with your partner that you both can enjoy?
This article will cover some tips on how to prepare for a couples boudoir session to make the experience all the more enjoyable for both partners.
For the couples who are about to take this journey together, I want them to know that they are not alone.
It often starts with an impulse buy - you see an Instagram post of a boudoir session and think that it would be a good idea for your partner.
A professional photographer will teach you how to feel confident in your skin while capturing these moments in the most beautiful way possible.
It's all about taking charge of our sexuality, being comfortable in our own skin, and being able to share this with our partners.
Planning a couples boudoir session can feel challenging for some because we are working with two bodies, two minds, and three relationships. You have the relationship of the two people, and then their individual relationships of self. One partner might be a little more timid and shy than the other. Through a series of questions and getting to know you we discuss how to overcome any nervousness.
As with all sessions, I am here for you along the way. You can ask me anything. The most important thing is that you feel heard int he process. Like all relationships, communication is key. From the moment you inquire I will help guide you through the process. The session and the images are not the only part of this experience, but also the preparation leading up to your session. I have great tips and tools that will help ease you into the day of the shoot.
I have a guide specifically tailored to you and your partner.

I have been a part of the wedding community for many years. While I rarely shoot weddings anymore, I am still deeply connected to many of the individuals that plan, cater and orchestrate amazing heart felt wedding day celebrations. I have continued to participate in many of our community events, as I feel boudoir is still part of the process. I understand every step of the way as I was present in hundreds of weddings for nearly two decades. If you have any questions about your up and coming wedding I am happy to help and point to in the direction of some amazing DJ’s, florists, bakers, planners, and venue coordinators.
Ms. C
There are times in our lives when we give so much of ourselves to others that we forget who we are. It is not as if we want to stop giving to those around us, but we need to take time to appreciate how far we have come. Life can be trying, and the heartache can wear on our souls. We can end up feeling like we lose ourselves in the everyday shuffle. The monotony of the day to day can slowly erode our self-confidence and our self-worth.
That’s why I love what I do as a boudoir photographer—I help remind women of their inner beauty. Boudoir shoots help us to remember who we are, and to remember the power we have inside. That was the case for the beautiful and empathic Ms. C, who met up with me here at the 1020 Studio in downtown Seattle.
Old Hollywood Curvy Boudoir Photography
Ms. C is a very nurturing human. Being empathetic is part of who she is. Clearly, in her occupation as a MA in Oncology, she experiences people going through the hardest time of their life. Cancer affects the lives of patients and the lives of their families so deeply. When you are an empath, you absorb that pain. You internalize part of that hardship. After a long day of work, she goes home and cares for her two beautiful children. Being a mom fills Ms. C’s heart to the brim and fuels her soul.
There are no days off when you are a parent—especially when they are little. When tragedy hits during this time of life, it really takes a toll. On you, on your family, on every part of your life. Ms. C is a gorgeous woman with a tender sweet soul.
I was so happy that Ms. C came to the studio for a boudoir session. She was the epitome of old Hollywood glamour. She channeled her inner Marilyn Monroe! Ms. C was simply gorgeous at every angle and with every curve. The outfits and the colors that she chose were so flattering to her stunning complexion.
“We are all of us stars, and we deserve to twinkle.” – Marilyn Monroe
Ms. C, thank you for sharing your light with others. You twinkle so brightly and for this boudoir session, you brought real, curvy Hollywood glamour. It was such a pleasure to be your photographer!

Ms. K
Back in August, I was lucky enough to photograph this gorgeous woman at the 1020 Studio. This boudoir session was amazing to capture, and I was so happy to be her photographer.
Empowering Boudoir Photography
Before her boudoir photography session with me, Ms. K had shared, “I want to feel beautiful in my own skin and let my light shine. Nothing is going to stop me from achieving my dreams and goals.”
Well, let me just say: Ms. K certainly let her light shine! She was an exuberant, bright light and was just SO much fun to photograph. This was not her first boudoir photography shoot, so she had a good idea of what the session would be like, but she didn’t have the full experience the way they are done in my studio. From picking out the best outfits for your shape, to making sure your makeup is how you want it, to highlighting your best assets—the experience you have during your boudoir session is just as important as the resulting images. Special thanks go out to the amazingly talented Kat St. John for the work she did making Ms. K’s hair and makeup look so amazing.
With my work as a boudoir photographer, I notice time and time again how we pick apart pieces of ourselves. That self-deprecation that prevents us from truly improving ourselves in the ways that are needed most. We focus on the parts of us that cannot really change… or parts of us that don’t need to. As a woman, I can relate. I empathize with the barriers you put up about yourself. I have them too. That’s why I feel so passionately that the boudoir photography experience should be something empowering. It should always be about embracing who you are and harnessing the beauty that you have. Flaws and all. All women are beautiful.
Sometimes, feeling good about yourself can be helped with some spectacular wardrobe choices. The lingerie Ms. K is wearing is easy to find and flattering on most body types. Ms. S
On July 14th, I met up with the lovely Ms. S at Studio 1020 to capture an empowering boudoir session for this beautiful woman.
Boudoir Photography at Studio 1020
When Ms. S reached out to me to book this session, she shared the following information with me:
"I recently lost about 80-90lbs and have struggled with my weight and my confidence my entire life. Learning to love myself and believe that I am beautiful is still a struggle, but I have gotten better and have gotten more confidence since the weight loss."
Knowing this about Ms. S, when I got the chance to meet her face to face, I was surprised felt this way. Even as a professional photographer, I didn’t see the things she was worried about. I didn't see the extra skin causing her to feel self-conscious, but there is no doubt in my mind she sees it.
We can be so self-sabotaging. Ms. S is so extremely gorgeous. I really wanted her personality and interests to shine during her boudoir session. One of my main goals in every photography session is to help women feel comfortable and beautiful in her own skin. To do so, I got to know Ms. S more. I wanted to find out ways to incorporate who she is in her photoshoot—her hobbies, her likes and the things she enjoys. Once I got to know her… I discovered she’s a little bit country! So, I asked if she would like to have a few photos that had a bit of a country vibe.
It turns out she wore boots on her wedding day! “BRING THOSE!” I quickly insisted.
Those boots added just a touch of country fun to the shoot. They added a vibe that was so true to who Ms. S is. I love when I can find a way to personalize a boudoir shoot to make it unique to my clients! Whether it’s incorporating a favorite pair of shoes, a husband’s favorite shirt or a romantic hand-knit throw, finding a way to personalize a boudoir shoot helps to make clients feel more relaxed in their own skin.
I am sure that you would agree that these photos of Ms. S are truly exquisite. There is beauty in self-love, and I hope these photographs help to bring you to a place where you can continue to feel beautiful. Thank you for letting me share these images today. Special thanks also to Kat St. John for the amazing hair and makeup artistry.
