7 Key Tips for Beautiful Plus Size Boudoir Photos and 5 Flattering Poses
What is holding you back from a boudoir session? This seattle boudoir photographer encourages all women, all people to explore their sensual side. We all have amazing bodies and this is a place where you can discover that giddess within. Put her up on the wall and relish in her divinity.
All these empowered women slayed their boudoir photo session
Tip #1: Above all else, do this for YOU!
This is your time to feel beautiful, sensuous, and confident. Whether you are doing this for yourself, or as a gift for someone special, make sure that you are doing it for YOU first and foremost. The better you feel about yourself, the more amazing your photos will be! This session goes beyond the studio. When you embrace this as a celebration of you, it will elevate your confidence. When that feeling of confidence is steaming off your chest your partner is going to see that, and I promise that is the best gift of all. This seeps into other parts of your life as well. I have legit had women tell me the confidence this session brought them courage to go for a better job and ask for more money. This actually happened in 2022. Watching her face tell me her story was the most moving and powerful feeling. To see a woman who felt life was on the rocks and then 4 weeks later slay her interview and land a position 3 times better is all the proof I need to know this is more about you than anyone else. In the blog Boudoir Builds Self Esteem for Real I talk about things that have actually happened.
Tip #2: Choosing the Type of Session and Style
There are many different types of boudoir sessions, and it's important to choose the right one for you. If you're not sure what you want, ask your photographer for recommendations. There are three main types of boudoir sessions: traditional, glamour, and artistic.
Traditional boudoir is more intimate and sensual, while glamour is more about showing off your saucy side. Artistic boudoir is a mix of both, and is a great option if you're not sure what you want. Whichever type of session you choose, make sure it's something that makes you feel comfortable and confident.
Tip #3: Choosing a Body Positive Boudoir Photographer
If you're considering a boudoir photo shoot, it's important to find a professional who is body positive. You should feel comfortable and confident in front of the camera, and the artist capturing you should make you feel like the elegant, gorgeous person that you are. Look for a photographer who celebrates all types of bodies and who will make you feel comfortable and confident in your own skin.
Tip #4: Choosing Lingerie & Outfits for Your Curvy Boudoir Session !
One of the most important aspects of preparing for your photo session is choosing the right lingerie and outfits. The right lingerie will not only make you feel empowered and confident, but it will also flatter your figure and highlight your best assets. When choosing intimate pieces for your boudoir session, keep in mind that less is often more. A simple, elegant bra and panty set or a lacy teddy can be much more effective than a flashy, over-the-top outfit. If you're not sure what to choose, consult with your photographer or ask for advice from a friend who's familiar with boudoir photography.
Tip #5: Hair, Waxing & Nail Appointments – No Spray Tanning!
It’s important to make sure your hair, waxing and nails are all done before your photo session. You want to look your best, and that includes having everything looking neat and tidy. However, don’t go overboard with the spray tanning! A little bit of color is fine, but you don’t want to look like you’ve been dipped in a vat of orange paint.
Book that nail appointment, and if you are curious what my go to nail colors are check out my blog post, 5 Best Nail Colors for your Boudoir Session.
Trim up the hedges ;) Unless you are au natural, I highly recommend trimming your front and yes even your backyard. You can go the lawnmower route, but if you plan ahead, go for the professional experience of a wax or sugaring.
I personally go for a sugar every 6 weeks, and it was the best choice for my life. I go see Aly at Sugar Plum in Bellevue. She is AMAZING and works with all bodies and individuals.
Tip #6: Eat Before!
The morning session, make sure to eat something! You don't want to be feeling faint or dizzy during your shoot. Eat a protein rich breakfast. Also bring a little snack or light meal will do the trick and help you feel your best.
Tip #7: Show Up with a Sense of Adventure
When you show up for your session, be sure to bring a sense of adventure! This is the time to try something new and have some fun. Be open to trying new poses and experimenting with different looks. Your photographer will guide you along the way and help you capture some amazing images. Still curious about how I pose curvy women? Go to this blog post on how I pose plus size .
What Should I Wear for My Saucy Photoshoot?
There are a few things to keep in mind when choosing what to wear for your boudoir experience. First, you want to choose something that makes you feel confident and beautiful. Second, you want to choose something that flatters your figure, and pick things that hug you gently. This means, no babydolls and no spanx. The babydoll is essentially the mumu of lingerie. I don't want you in a tent and I don't want you to be so confined you cannot move. Lastly, you want to choose something that is comfortable to wear. What is in-between piece of lingerie that is perfect? It is the bodysuit! Trust me on this one. It is my job to elongate you and show off your curves on the right places.
With those things in mind, here are a few suggestions for what to wear for your saucy photoshoot:
A form-fitting dress or top and bottom combo. This will show off your curves and give you a sexy, confident look.
A lacy lingerie set. This will accentuate your curves and make you feel like a sultry goddess.
A flowing robe that we use as a prop. This will drape over your curves in a flattering way and make you feel both comfortable and beautiful.
Whatever you choose to wear, make sure it makes you feel sexy and confident. That is the most important thing! If you have any questions
This is a safe place where bold women come, where self-love is encouraged, nurtured and celebrated. In this studio we bring out your inner goddess and allow you to indulge in some well-deserved self-love. Every body is beautiful and it is a good thing to show body. Embrace your curves.
The most important thing to remember is choosing a professional boudoir photographer whose studio is a safe place for all different body types to embrace their contours.
Show off Sexy Short Hair Boudoir Shoot - Ms V
Short haircuts allows the neck to be showcased, the line that travels from the back of the ear, swoops down the neck to the shoulder. It's a curve that we often overlook, but is sensual and provocative. A short cut also accentuates the features of the face, bringing attention to the eyes, cheekbones, and jawline. It can make a statement of boldness, confidence, and independence.

Short hair is bold
Short hair challenges societal norms that dictate women must have long, flowing locks to be seen as feminine and attractive. With a short haircut, women take control of their appearance and refuse to conform to gender stereotypes. Short hair also provides a sense of empowerment. It takes a lot of conviction to chop off one's hair, and it signals that the woman is unafraid to be seen and heard. It is a statement that the woman is comfortable in her own skin and is not afraid to stand out from a crowd. Finally, divorcing long hair is a bold choice. It is often seen as a rebellious hairstyle that defies convention. It shows that the woman is not afraid to take risks and try new things. In a world where conformity is often rewarded, short hair is a refreshing departure from the norm.

It is a curve that we often overlook, but is sensual and provocative. A short cut also accentuates the features of the face, bringing attention to the eyes, cheekbones, and jawline. It can make a statement of boldness, confidence, and independence. Plus, it's easy to manage and style, making it a practical choice for busy individuals. Overall, short style offers versatility and a sense of empowerment that can be both liberating and sensual.
Short hair is liberating
Short hair says tells the world you have more important things to do. Your pixie cut also screams confidence and self-assurance. You know who you are and you don't need to hide behind a full head of hair to prove it. You embrace your features, flaws and all, and strut with a certain boldness that turns heads wherever you go. Chopping it all off also represents a sense of adventure and change. It is a daring move to chop off your locks and sport a trendy new look. You are willing to take risks and try new things, which makes you a dynamic and exciting person to be around. Overall, your short locks exudes power, confidence, and independence. You are a force to be reckoned with and your hair is just the cherry on top of all that greatness. Keep rocking that pixie cut and showing the world what a boss lady you truly are! unapologetic
Shake Up that short hair with Boudoir
When Ms V came in for her session, I saw how that bare neckline really gave light to the most amazing structure and swoop from her ear down her shoulder. If she didn't know already I saw it immediately. You know when you know. Looking at her I felt this vintage Madonna circa True Blue, Papa don't preach and Vogue all in one. Madonna was always that confident powerhouse to me as a young woman. She was always that unapologetic icon star that said "Don't be afraid!" She showed women you could celebrate your sexy and stun the world without longer hair.
There are times a woman walks in the door and swear she has no idea what she has. Ms V is humble, not one to be a show off, but hot damn if I wasn't going to show her that she has 100% ability to SHOW OFF.
Get in touch with that in queen and fall in love with her power though boudoir photography. Show off that cropped cut, be provocative and empowered. Stomp on societal norms and give me your best Vogue.

15 Couples Boudoir That Embody Intimacy to the Core
Intimacy Feels So Good
Get Ready to get close and have all the feels.
We believe that intimate photography should be about more than just the physical act of sex. It should be about capturing the love, dedication, commitment, and fantasies that couples share with one another. We think that's pretty darn sexy! Providing an open space of acceptance allows couples to unfold into one another, and their voice of intimacy is reflected into the images that are documented.
Trust in the Process of your Photographer
The process of a couples boudoir photo shoot is not much different than that of a solo boudoir session. We prepare you in much of the same way with consultations around self-care, lingerie, wardrobe, the day of photography experience and final art and albums that are offered. During your consultation we go over the timeline from when you book to your actual shoot in the studio, all the way to your order and reveal session. A couples boudoir session can be as modest or and sensual as you want it to be. If you are looking for something more erotic or kinky we can talk about that option as well. When it comes to privacy, that is up to you. Some of our couples opt to showcase their images on the website and other who are more private opt to keep them to themselves. It is 100% up to you how who sees your photos.
Who does a couples session?
Anyone who wants to spice things up, celebrate a milestone, design a hot steamy unique date night or just do something special with their loved one. I have had couples come in for 1 year, 7 year, 10 year and 25 year anniversaries. I have had couples who have been beaten down by the toddler between them in their bed. Couples who found themselves after their kids moved out. A parter who wanted to shower her lover in feeling like the diva she sees her as. Many couples just want to feel sexy with one another and the beautiful artwork created is a way to show that always.
What, you've never done a couples boudoir session before?
Rest assured you are not the only one. All of these couples here tried something new and all of them would definitely recommend this photoshoot. It is totally natural to feel awkward at first, I mean you are taking your bedroom experience and bringing it into a boudoir studio. You are my only session of the day, so their is no need for us to rush through anything. I work at your pace, which helps you feel comfortable. Through our process we get to know one another and I start you off easy with casual playful prompts that bring our your genuine facial expressions. As we progress through the day you, will feel completely comfortable and the entire experience will fill you with a adventurous spark igniting a flame that pulls you both closer together.
How much clothing do we have to take off during couples boudoir photography?
How much clothing you wear is up to you. I have couples bring outfits, lingerie, harnesses and even just be nude. I want you to feel comfortable about being passionate and expressing your feelings with your spouse. If that means you are covered that it totally fine. Remember this boudoir shoot is your boudoir experience. Like all things your consent it the number one aspect. When you feel at ease your images show that, and my job to make you feel that way.
Your last experience you felt weird being posed ?
We've heard that before, and it is okay. Most of the time couples are referencing their engagement shoot, wedding day or headshots. It is not uncommon to feel like you were put on display. A boudoir photography session is way more private, just the three of us. The way I pose is more natural and less contrived. I start you off with a fluid prompts that you would probably find yourselves doing anyway at home. We are in a private setting, and no one is watching. I will always make sure you look your best, and the wonderful part if it is, this photo session is about the candid moments of affection between the two of you.
We are different, how do you feel about that
All people are welcome in this space. I feel we are all unique yet the same. We are all humans, and we all express ourselves differently. When you share your story with me know that I am open to it as long as all people are consenting adults of sound mind.

7 Questions to Ask Your Boudoir Photographer
While I cannot answer for other photographers I can answer some of these questions about myself for you
1. What experience do you have with boudoir photography?
I started photography at a young age, it ran in the family. By high school, I was doing photoshoots with my girlfriends, and it was affirming then. In my mid twenties I took photography seriously and began my career. I started with weddings and naturally worked with a bunch of women. Women were always nervous about how they were going to look. I reassured them with the right pose no matter what they would be stunning. I came into boudoir because not every person has a wedding, and honestly it isn't just brides that need to be lifted and empowered. There are people of all walks of life that boudoir and intimate photography helps, and I wanted to serve everyone. As a woman and a professional boudoir photographer my goal is to put all clients at ease. It is through a safe space that clients may blossom and we create stunning boudoir photography.
2. What style of boudoir photography do you specialize in?
The loaded question of what style is my style. First off, I am always learning, improving, expanding my style. I love the romantic, light airy, demure, elegant and beautiful boudoir styles. I also really dig the edgy, dark, moody sultry saucy and stunning boudoir styles. I have two studio spaces that I love to design. Color is so fascinating to me and the second you step into my dark and moody space you will see where I express my artistic passion for color.
3. What is your process for a boudoir photo shoot?
We will hop on a consultation call and go over a brief explanation of the process, and you can ask any questions you have. In the consultation we talk about our professional hair and make up services, wardrobe client closet, lingerie guide, posing tips, post-processing methods and options for wall art, albums or digital images.
4. How do you make your subjects feel comfortable during a shoot?
When you arrive, you are going to realize I am just like you. I will be in my shooting attire, comfortable and no make up face. You are going to tell me more about yourself as you pull out all the amazing pieces you have brought with you. Then you are going to get comfortable with hair and make up, she will get you relaxed, ready and absolutely gorgeous! We will connect and that is going to help you feel as comfortable as possible during a shoot. We are an open environment and really do work with every type of person under the sun. We embrace uniqueness and diversity, so show me what you got! When we start shooting I will provide you with a couple of tips and really I will be guiding your every pose. I also make sure to let them know what I'm going to be doing during the shoot so they know what to expect. I find that if my subjects are comfortable and relaxed, they tend to look their best in the photos. The most successful boudoir photographers are the ones that listen and allow a safe space for self expression.
5. What should I expect during and after the photo shoot?
We get started in the morning and you will be finished early afternoon. Professional hair and makeup takes anywhere from an hour to an hour and a half. The session itself lasts about 2 hours. I use a combination of natural light and artificial light, mostly it depends on your style. The shoot is so much about you that I never plan YOUR shoot before I meet you. I want your photo session to be a reflection of you.
6. How long will it take to receive my photos?
Did you know that great boudoir photos start the day of your shoot. You are the main part of the boudoir process, because it is all about you. Most of the magic is the efforts of your make up artist, myself and YOU. After we do your boudoir photo session, you will return to the studio in 10-14 days following your shoot. Depending on how you want to display your photos is the next step. That process can be take more time depending on your vision.
7. Do you offer retouching services?
Yes, we offer retouching services included with every session. We can remove blemishes, scars, wrinkles, and other imperfections from your photos. We generally try to keep you natural and in the decade you are in. I do not believe in altering your body, and I promise through posing you will be amazing how incredible your body is.
7 Reason people tell me why they are not ready for a boudoir shoot
There are a few reasons why people tell me they are not ready for a boudoir shoot.
The most common reason people say they are not ready is they may feel like they need to lose weight or get in better shape before they can feel comfortable in front of the camera. I can tell you that women of all sizes, shapes and heights come into the studio. Some have accomplished their objective, and others have just begun. Everyone single person has a unique perception of themselves and no one person is the same. We would be awfully boring if we all looked the same, and frankly there would be no purpose for art. Humans are the most diverse species and we should celebrate our bodies and our physical state at every stage. Every pose for boudoir I use accentuates your best features and assets.
Secondly, they may be concerned about how their skin looks and whether or not they need to get a professional makeup artist. Blemishes are part of life, and so are scars and stretch marks. I have a bunch of scars and stretch marks, and some how in my mid 40's I still struggle with break outs. The best part of seeing a professional photographer is that we also know high end retouching that will look more natural. The majority of us need some form of skin editing. These dslr cameras and zoom lenses pick up on every detail. While these told are exceptional for luxury boudoir photography, post processing and skin retouching are standard in the process as well. You will always be you, I'll just polish your boudoir images to be the best version while still maintaining the most natural look.
A common obstacle I hear is about wardrobe. Many women feel daunted by the thought of lingerie shopping, and rightfully so, not all bodies are the same and not all lingerie is the same. How many times have you stepped into the dressing room and been disappointed with everything. It happens to all of us. I am going to help you pick out items that will look amazing on you, and the boudoir poses that I put you in along with the perfect garment are tried-and-true methods. You are not the only one that fears their midsection.
Additionally, many of us feel anxious about our bodies and how it will look in the photos. "I never look good in photos" Okay, fair enough, except one thing....the camera that usually is being used is on a phone. Phone cameras are not forgiving, and neither are point and shoots. The camera on the phone uses a wide-angle lens, and wide-angle shots are meant for landscapes not portraits. Without getting into the physics and science of what that means, the quick answer is that lens is not meant for portraits. I use some very expensive lenses that are specifically meant for taking portraits that flatter people.
There are times when I hear individuals fear they will judged by others for doing a boudoir session. Well isn't that the case with everything? I have been judged a million times over and only once in front of an actual judge...ehh emmm....my divorce. I have been judged from kindergarten all the way since yesterday. People love to judge us and you know what, so what. You are you and the only life you have is this one. There will be people that judge you, but they are just jealous that you have to power and gumption to step out and step up. Also you don't have to scream it at the top of the mountain if you don't want to. Some blast it on the evening news and others keep this to themselves forever. I fall in the middle with mine.
A super common reason I am told that a person is not ready is they have never done anything like this before and feel scared and intimidated by the whole process. Most people have not done it. You might have done some selfies at home, but to bare all and expose your sensuality with a stranger, well most people have not had that boudoir experience. Now let me ask you, when was the last time you had a professional photograph taken of you? When was the last time you had professional hair and makeup services done on you? Really there is not much to be afraid of, you get pampered and transformed into fine art.
Finally, they may simply not be in the right headspace for a boudoir shoot at this time in their life. Here is something that no matter what I say, if you are not in the right space then you are not in the right space. I still encourage you to search for the love and passion within to celebrate your body. You can start with simple self love daily affirmations and actions to lift your self image up. When you sign up for our newsletter we talk about self love and ways to treat yourself with respect and honor your body.

How do I Pose Plus Size Boudoir
Posing for the Curvy
Plus Size Boudoir Session
I get calls all the time from women who ask if I can or will pose plus size. First off, I pose all people. You can be any size or shape and I got you. If you really want to know my secret on posing plus size curvy women, I pose them the exact same way as anyone else. All women want curves in the right places, and it does not matter what their dress size is. Pop a hip here and drop a shoulder there.
A lot of of what I have everyone do is all about putting the individual in the best light. If you can follow direction well you got this, and even if you cannot, I’ve got you.
As a woman myself, growing up as a teenager in the 90’s with the waif look in fashion, I was always super critical of my own body. Thankfully we are in a time of body acceptance and learning to move past those mentally damaging views. All the same, we want to feel saucy and accentuate the curves we love. Always communicate with me what you want and what you don’t want.
The secret is getting the right pieces and the right poses. I can guide you on what to wear and how to move your body.
What is Erotic Photography?
Erotic photography is a form of art that captures the beauty and sensuality of the human body. The term “erotic photography” is used to describe a type of photography that captures the beauty and sensuality of the human body.
By definition the word erotic pertains to “relating to arouse sexual desire or excitement”
When the term erotic is said it does not always infer explicit. Many things can provoke sexual desire, the things that provoke sexual excitement do not have to be profane. It is totally possible that erotism is found in subtly, hidden between the lines, as well as blatant sexual content. Everybody has a different opinion regarding the meaning of eroticism. In general, the erotic word is also used to describe the action of any emotion that is revealed on the human face. To be more specific, it is a sexual expression. Although, you might find that there are other less sexually related things that are called "erotic" so this term is not written in stone.
What are you turned on by? What do you find provoking? What draws you toward another person or even toward yourself?
One night my partner and I were lounging in bed, just resting in our sweats, just scrolling through our digital devices, and he asked me, “Is your check engine light still on?” Right there at that moment, I feel compelled to fervently attack him, he was the most sexy hottest being ever at that very moment. You must realize that Acts of Service, is my number one love language. A few days prior he had replaced the battery in my car, and all he was doing was checking up to make sure everything was running smoothly. That lingered in my mind for a few days, and when I shared with him my experience he chuckled.
Another totally non explicit thing that is a total turn on is the voice of Sam Elliott that is deep, robust yet velvety and romantic all in one. To hear him speak ignites something in me.
Erotism is not always bare flesh.
Now that you have an idea of what really is erotic you can visualize what that means to you. With the birth of the photograph so was the birth of erotic photography. This was not a profound discovery, nothing really ground breaking. Before erotic photography we had erotic painters. Look at anything produced during the renaissance and you will find erotism. Travel even further back in time and you will find it too.
Erotic photography can be emulate romanticism with slight suggestion or border on the lewd and downright obscene. As the famous saying goes, “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.”
I challenge you to think about what feels erotic to you. Are you looking for a more sublime hidden message or are you overt and blatant?
Think about what has drawn you to individuals. What propelled you to desire them? What brought them to you? Are there aspects of yourself that excite you that attract others. There is nothing like loving something that you do yourself, and also having that excite others.
Are you ready to explore your own session and create something erotic for yourself or for someone special.
3 Best Tips for your Boudoir Session
My top three tips for a successful boudoir shoot. You might be shocked to find out these have nothing to do with dieting or shopping.
When you come in for a boudoir session with us, we will help guide you so you feel prepared. I also know we all have super busy lives and sometimes we just cannot accomplish every task we set out to do. If you find that life takes over and you show up with nothing, these three tips are are going to be your savior and hopefully only a day or two of preparation.
You might be surprised to find out, but none of these tips require lingerie to be purchased or really any money to be spent. All of these tips are self care that can be done at home.
REST - get a good nights sleep, stay away from alcohol the night before your session. A solid 7-8 hours sleep will provide you with a fresh well rested face.
2. Hydrate - Drink lots. of water in the days leading up to your session. Take a bath, moisturize your skin. Especially if you are prone to dry skin make sure you do these simple things to help you skin look supple and fresh.
3. Manicure - This doesn’t have to be fancy at all. You don’t even have to do polish. Of course I recommend that you treat yourself to the salon, but not required. You can do a simple home manicure. Make sure your nails are clean and even. I incorporate your hands a lot and you don’t want to have jagged ripped nails. If you are curious about nail colors check out my blog article on manicure ideas.
